Franchetti Named SAC Player of the Week

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman catcher Kevin Franchetti (Highland, Ind.) earned South Atlantic Conference Baseball Player of the Week honors after a six-RBI Sunday doubleheader performance against Lenoir-Rhyne, the conference office announced Wednesday.

Franchetti keyed the Eagles to a sweep of the Bears by driving in six runs during Sunday's doubleheader, including a 3-3 performance with a pair of homers and 5 RBI during the first game of the twinbill.

In all during the week, Franchetti hit .417 with five extra-base hits and an on-base percentage of .462 and a slugging percentage of 1.250.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Franchetti drove in the winning run in the bottom of the sixth on his RBI double to centerfield, putting the Eagles ahead 4-3, which would be the final score as Carson-Newman completed its sweep of Lenoir-Rhyne.

This is the second weekly honor for Carson-Newman this season, as pitcher Chris Armstrong was named the SAC Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 12.

The Eagles are off to the best start of any team in the South Atlantic Conference with an 8-1 mark in conference play.

Franchetti is tied for third on the team with his 12 RBI, and is tied for the team lead in home runs with three this season, two of which came on Sunday.

Carson-Newman will next play a weekend SAC series at Mars Hill. Friday's game is at 2 p.m., with a Saturday doubleheader beginning at noon.
