ROCK HILL, S.C. – Carson-Newman starting pitcher Chris Armstrong has garnered first team All-South Atlantic Conference honors in his senior season. 

"It's great to get recognized for that, but the team has a lot to do with that," Armstrong said. "There have been some tremendous plays behind me to keep me in things, double plays turned, Zach Long making a diving catch in left.  Wouldn't be here without those plays."

Armstrong is fifth  in the conference in wins with six.  A strikeout artist, he's second in the league in Ks with 79 – including 71 in league play. 

Opponents are hitting .198 against him, ninth in the league.  The senior has  only surrendered 11 extra base hits. 

Armstrong's top game came against Lenoir-Rhyne when he struck out a career high 12 batters.  Armstrong pitched with consistency, striking out 10 or more on three separate occasions and more than seven on six occasions.  Armstrong was, at times, a workhorse on the bump, he only made two appearances where he pitched less than six innings.

Armstrong's arm will be on display at noon Thursday when he appears as the opening starter for C-N in the SAC tournament in Forest City, N.C. against Catawba.
