JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Former Carson-Newman starting pitcher and second team All-SAC selection Chris Armstrong has signed a contract with the Frontier League's Schaumburg Boomers. 

Armstrong, also a member of the SAC All-Tournament team, had a solid debut on June 22, throwing 1.1 innings of shutout, one-hit ball against the Traverse City Beach Bums.

"It's great and shows the growth and maturation process of the young man," Carson-Newman head baseball coach Tom Griffin said.  "In the offseason he continued to put in work to prepare himself for such an opportunity and it's paid off."

No one pitched more innings (9.2) than Armstrong did in the SAC tournament.  The senior started and tossed a complete game in the Eagles opening victory over Catawba.  Then Armstrong fired two-thirds of an inning in relief on Sunday morning to help put C-N into the title game.  Armstrong did not allow an earned run throughout the tournament.

Armstrong was fourth in the conference in wins with seven.  A strikeout artist, he was second in the league in Ks with 90 – including 71 in league play. 

Opponents hit .202 against him, ninth in the league.  The senior only surrendered 11 extra base hits. 

Armstrong's top game came against Lenoir-Rhyne when he struck out a career high 12 batters.  Armstrong pitched with consistency, striking out 10 or more on three separate occasions and more than seven on six occasions.  Armstrong was, at times, a workhorse on the bump, he only made two appearances where he pitched less than six innings.
