JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – This weekend provides the first full glimpse at the upcoming Carson-Newman baseball season as the program hosts its annual Blue versus Orange World Series this weekend in a best-of-five intrasquad event starting Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. inside of the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex.

Assistant coaches John Topoleski (Blue) and Tyler Miller (Orange) will mentor the rosters for the weekend. Game two of the series starts at 1 p.m. on Friday. Game three is slated for 2 p.m. on Sunday. The final two affairs are pinned for Monday and Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. All of the games will be seven-inning outings.

Coach Miller's Orange side won the championship last season clinching the title in game four despite being no-hit. Three Blue pitchers held the Orange without a knock as John Sharpe drew a seven-pitch walk, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly from Mark Treadway (Friendsville, Tenn.).

The final tally in the series read 3-1-1 with the Blue earning the victory in the total runs scored category 33-27. The MVPs were Treadway and Sharpe for the Orange team and Alan Silva for the Blue side.

Tuesday afternoon the coaching staff hunkered down in the war room of the C-N baseball offices to conduct the draft. Topoleski controlled the rock-paper-scissors battle earning the first pick taking Micah Genter (Jasper, Tenn.). He followed up with Tyler Thompson (Gallatin, Tenn.), Matt Bradley (Talbott, Tenn.) and Brendan Krob (Justice, Ill.).

The Orange team's first picks were Zach Boze (Gallatin, Tenn.), Jordan Griffin (Ellerslie, Ga.), Tyler Shaver (Dandridge, Tenn.) and Chris Caldwell (Seymour, Tenn.).

American League rules with a designated hitter will be employed for games one, three and five as the Orange team will be the home club while National League rules will be used for games two and four.

The winner of the series earns a championship shirt while the losing team has to do field work and paint the facilities.

The team that scores the most total runs over the course of the five contests gets a meal at Gondolier, a spot for traditional Italian fare, plus Greek specialties & oven-baked sandwiches.

Game one's pitching matchup will feature Bradley for the visitors and Sidney Schultz (Dunlap, Tenn.) for the Orange club.

The Eagle Sports Network will provide the audio call of the first two games and Monday on cneagles.com/live as fans are encouraged to listen to the broadcast team over the weekend. Recaps of each game will be posted on cneagles.com following play each day. A full broadcast schedule will be released on Twitter on @CNbaseball.
