Phanor snags TSWA State Player of the Week honor

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - For the third time this season, Carson-Newman football has had a defender recognized with the Tennessee Sportswriters' Association's State Defensive Player of the Week award.

Carson-Newman defensive end Wycleff Phanor (Naples, Fla.) earns the honors for the week of Oct. 26 to join Darius Williams (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and Rondrow Peebles (Knoxville, Tenn.) as Carson-Newman players recognized this season.

Naples was a force in the backfield in Carson-Newman's 24-21 Homecoming win over Newberry. The junior resest his career highs for tackles and tackles for loss with six and 3.5, respectively.  The 3.5 tackles for loss are the most by any Eagle in a single game this season and tied for the 11th most in a single game in school history.  His tackles for loss backed Newberry up 13 yards

The junior accounted for tackles for loss in each of the first two quarters and added two tackles for loss with a sack in the fourth quarter, the team's only sack of the game.

Phanor and the rest of the Eagles will be in action Saturday at Mars Hill. Kickoff with the Lions is set for 1 p.m. Coverage starts at noon on the Eagle Sports Network with the AEC Tailgate Show on Joy 620 (WRJZ-AM, Knoxville), The Mountain 106.3 (WPFT-FM, Sevierville) and online at cneagles.com/live.
