Wylie announces signing of Nielsen to 2020 class

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman men's golf coach Randy Wylie announced his lone addition to the 2020 class in Jonathan Nielsen during the fall signing period.

"He's a world-ranked player," Wylie said. "He won a big tournament in Denmark that qualified him for the world rankings which is very encouraging. He was interested in coming to Carson-Newman before I had even knew anything about him. He had researched the school and reached out to me directly which is a bit unusual, but it's a really nice fit to our team."

In the World Amateur Golf Ranking, Nielsen currently sits at 5748 for the men's side but his best ranking in the list has been 5636. He made his way into the ranking in just his junior year of high school. His ranking was assisted by a win at the DJGA Masters (U18) with a 228 through three rounds.

Two other current Eagles are in the WAGR with Tom Forster sitting at 321 and Alex Hodge at 2512.

"A lot of the kids on our team are trying to get those world rankings, too," Wylie said. "Tom obviously is highly world-ranked, but it's something our team aspires to. If they are already coming in as freshman with a nice world ranking, that is tremendous for our program."

Nielsen comes to Mossy Creek from Hørsholm, Denmark where he played golf and soccer at Birkerød Gymnasium.

During his high school career, Nielsen collected 17 top-10 finishes with six victories. He possessed a 74.1 scoring average. From 2017-19, he was selected for the Danish Nation Youth Squad.

Nielsen comes from a golf family with both of his brothers, Tim and Thomas Nielsen, play at the collegiate ranks. Tim is a sophomore at Keiser University and Thomas is a senior at Southern Wesleyan.
