GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman Eagles (2-2) finished their stay at the Stanno Tournament with a 2-0 victory over the Lees-McRae Bobcats (1-3) at Tusculum College's Upper Field on Sunday afternoon.

The win completed a 2-0 weekend for the Eagles at the Stanno Tournament, after beating Shorter 2-1 on Friday.

"We keep improving from week-to-week to game-to-game," said Carson-Newman Director of Soccer and head coach Richard Moodie. "Today was a real good performance and a real good effort."

Carson-Newman took an early 1-0 lead in the ninth minute mark when junior defender Matheus Bachi (Caxias do Sul, Brazil) scored his first goal of the season on a penalty kick.

The Eagles added to the lead near the end of the first period in the 42nd minute mark. Taylor Jolley scored his second goal of the season and the weekend as he found the back of the net from a shot 15 yards out thanks to an assist by Matt Craine that gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead, which would be the final score.

Carson-Newman goalkeeper Rumwald Le Guevel picked up his first shutout win of the season, collecting three saves in the victory.

The Eagles outshot the Bobcats 15-10 throughout the match, and Lees-McRae did not capitalize on three corner kick opportunities.

Carson-Newman's Sindre Welo and Rurik Pereira were both named to the 2012 Stanno All-Tournament Team.

"We keep building from week-to-week, and we're looking good," Moodie said. "We're excited about going into conference play next weekend."

Carson-Newman will next play in its South Atlantic Conference opener on Saturday Sept. 15 against Newberry in Newberry, S.C. at 4 p.m.
