JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman men's soccer team (7-4-2, 5-1-2 South Atlantic Conference) topped the Anderson Trojans (3-9-1, 3-4-1 South Atlantic Conference) by a 4-1 score at McCown Field on Saturday night.

Four players scored in the Carson-Newman victory, as the Eagles posted their top goal-scoring match of the season.

The Eagles wasted no time in building an early lead. Freshman midfielder Rurik Pereira (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) scored his second goal in a Carson-Newman uniform when scored off of a Taylor Jolley (Morristown, Tenn.) assist to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the third minute mark.

Just over five minutes later, the Trojans answered on a goal by Ben Jones to even the match at one in the eighth minute of the first period.

The match remained tied until the final minute of the first period. With only twelve seconds remaining in the 44th minute, sophomore midfielder Joao Pedro Dowsley (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) found the back of the net to give the Eagles a 2-1 advantage going into halftime. The goal is the fourth of the season for Dowsley, and he is now second on the team in goals scored, trailing only Sindre Welo's five goals.

Carson-Newman maintained a 2-1 lead until the 68th minute mark. This time Pereira provided an assist and he helped pave the way for a Lucas Siqueira goal to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead. The goal is the second of the season for Siquiera.

The Eagles added their final goal in the 76th minute mark. Senior defender Ariel Pimentel (Virginia Beach, Va.) scored his first goal of the season as his shot beat Anderson goalkeeper Lukas Hasse to put Carson-Newman's lead at 4-1, which would be the final score.

Carson-Newman goalkeeper Rumwald Le Guevel (Vannes, France) picked up the victory, as he allowed only the one goal and he did not make a save during the match, as the goal was scored for Anderson on its only shot on goal during the 90 minute affair.

The Eagles outshot the Trojans 19-5 in the match, including a strong second period where Carson-Newman had 11 shots to Anderson's one. Pereira led Carson-Newman with four shots during the match.

Carson-Newman will next play on Wednesday Oct. 24 against Bryan College in Dayton, Tenn. The match begins at 7 p.m.
