ROCK HILL, S.C. – After a four-goal outing in Carson-Newman's 7-0 season-opening win over North Greenville, Tobias Solem Karlsen has been named the initial Player of the Week for the 2019 campaign from both the South Atlantic Conference and Tennessee Sports Writers Association, as announced on Tuesday.

The Kongsvinger, Norway native has been tabbed an AstroTurf SAC Player of the week four times now, twice as the offensive selection. He was awarded the accolade twice during his sophomore campaign and added another one as a junior. As for the TSWA, this marks his third from the group after receiving one in both of the past two seasons.

His latest laurels come on the heels of his seventh-career multiple-goal game. Solem Karlsen attempted eight shots in the win with each one landing on frame. His four goals in the match gave him eight points. He leads the conference and national rankings in goals per game, total goals, shots on goal and points per game.

"We know what Toby is about, and to go on there I think it was within about 10 minutes, he's managed to have himself four good goals," Carson-Newman coach Stephen Lyons said. "We know what we're going to get out of him – keep leading the line, keep working hard."

Among active players in Division II, he is tied for eighth on the career goals list at 26 while sitting at 41^st among all NCAA divisions. He is 15^th for goals per game at 0.59, a clip good enough for 39^th in all of the NCAA. His 56 career points are 18^th among active Division II players while his 1.27 points per game are 16^th among Division II and 46^th in the nation.

There was a whopping 8:26 between his four goals on Friday, helping the Eagles to distance themselves from the Crusaders early in the first half. The senior now sits in a three-way tie with Ryan Williams and Dario Carrasco for the second-most goals in a single game in the Carson-Newman record books. Williams scored four against USC-Aiken on Oct. 28, 1995 while Carrasco netted four against Newberry on Oct. 21, 2006.

Solem Karlsen moved into ninth in program history for career goals with 26 and is tied for second on the game-winning goals tally at 11 with Omar Cooke who notched that clip from 2005 to 2009. He needs just one more to tie Dario Carrasco for the most in team history.

He is now just 12 shots shy of the top 10 for career shots attempted, currently with 127, but is tied for seventh with 55 shots on goal.
