Eagles fall to Mocs in Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Concluding a stretch where Carson-Newman's men's tennis team played four matches away from home in a week, the Eagles traveled two hours down the road to take on the Mocs and fell 7-0.

The results of all the doubles matches were similar. Gabriel Dabdab and Jesus Bacete-Sanz were defeated by Simon Bustamante and Kerim Hyatt 6-2. Freshmen Rintaro Oka and Hernan Toledo fell to Niklas Gerdes and Tomas Rodriguez 6-3, and Marc Bantel Victor Ireno were defeated by Pablo Llebeili and Jacob Marshall 6-3 as well.

Bantel was the only Eagle that came out with a set win but fell in a tiebreaker 6-7, 6-1, 1-0 (10-8) at the No. 4 singles to Bustamante. Bacete-Sanz fought in a close first set dropping it 7-5 but couldn't keep it going into his second set and fell in that one 6-2 to Llebeili at No. 5. 

At the top of the lineup, Dabdab fell to Niklas Gerdes 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 and Oka was defeated by Rodriques with the same score at No. 2. Toledo fell to Hyatt 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3 and rounding out the lineup for the Eagles was Joseph Stiles falling to Cooper Long 6-1, 6-1.

The Eagles will be back in action on Feb. 28 on their home courts for the first time this season against Tennessee Wesleyan. For more information and updates check back on cneagles.com.
