JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- Carson-Newman men's tennis team sets their sights on the Coker Cobras travelling to Hartsville, S.C. on Saturday. 

The Eagles are have only managed to secure one win in the last five meetings with the Cobras and look to add to that tally this weekend.  

The Eagles are 1-12 overall and 0-4 in conference play. With multiple matches this season coming down to three set matches, the team just hasn't been able to step up in the close situations and thus making match scores look quite a bit worse than the match actually was. 

"The guys just have to step up in the big moments," Coach Jim Frederick said. "We compete well and get matches to three sets but then we can't close it out. We switched the doubles around against Tusculum to experiment with different pairs and are still trying to figure out what works in that area."

The Cobras finished last season with an 11-11 record and were ranked as high as 46th in the Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis for Division II. They fought their way to the quarterfinals of the South Atlantic Conference tournament just falling to Queens. The team said goodbye to senior Mark Watt who closed out his career with the most singles wins in their program's history. With a staggering nine recruits added to the team, there are only three returners for the Cobras including Hunter Horton who earned All-Conference for his singles play last season.
