Lauren Wade recognized as NSCAA second-team All-American

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Adding to her list of accolades following the 2016 season, Carson-Newman junior midfielder Lauren Wade (Coleraine, Northern Ireland) has been named a second-team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

The NSCAA is the second organization to recognize Wade as an All-American in 2016, as the D2CCA placed her on their first-team.

Wade is the seventh player in program history to be chosen as an All-American, joining Morgan Gruenfelder, Rebecca Angus, Stacey Thomas, Claire Ramsdale, Jennifer Bock and Julianne Herrity (Donegal, Ireland). This also marks the second consecutive year the women's soccer team has had a player garner national recognition, as Herrity's selection came just a year ago.

The Northern Ireland native concluded her first year in Mossy Creek at the top of the national leaderboard in points per game, with an average of an even three. She also finished the year averaging 1.18 goals per game and 0.65 assists, both of which placed her third in Division II. The junior midfielder piled up 20 goals, the country's seventh highest total, and 51 points, which ranked sixth. Her 11 assists put her 11th in the nation. All these totals also led the South Atlantic Conference. Wade's 51 points are the third-most in a season in program history and her 20 goals tie her for fifth. Her year also included a five-goal performance against USC-Aiken on Sept. 12th, which stands as the second-most goals in a game in Division II this season. She added two assists in that match, giving her 12 points, the second-highest total in a game in 2016. Wade scored multiple times in four matches this season, including hat tricks against Tusculum and Coker.

Wade was the only student-athlete from the SAC to be chosen by the NSCAA.
