VIDEO: Manon Compager chats about winning first BMC Female Swimmer of the Week Award
Jefferson City, TN - Freshman Manon Compagner (Balkbrug, Netherlands) received her first Bluegrass Mountain Conference Female Swimmer of the Week Award after her performance in C-N's home dual-meet against Lees-McRae College on Nov.16.
Compagner swam the 50-yard butterfly portion of the team's 200-yard medley relay in a time of 24.5 seconds, good enough for a lifetime best and just half of a second shy of tying the program record.
"I think in a 50-yard you really have to work on your relay exchange and your turn," Compagner said. "Even though that's not really my strength point in the 50, I would say it went well."
The underclassman knows there are still improvements that can be made along the way.
"There's still things I can improve in it," Compagner said. "Like the turn from the wall is still pretty slow and we've been working on it but it's pretty hard to do it all well in one race."
She also took home first place in the 100-yard freestyle in 52.1 seconds which was also a lifetime best and fast enough for the 15th-fastest record time in the nation this season.
"I didn't really expect to go this fast," Compagner said. "...I didn't really expect this to happen and I'm really glad with my results for this but there's still a lot to work on. I still have to qualify for nationals and still probably have to go faster for that."
Compagner and the Eagles travel to Knoxville, TN for the Tennessee Invitational from Nov.21 to Nov.23.
