JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman women's tennis falls 6-1 to No. 15 Queens at Mossy Creek Saturday after taking three matches to three sets but only getting one win out of them.

"The girls played hard," Coach Jim Frederick said of their performance. "It was just another close loss to a top 15 team."

The Royals are ranked No. 15 Nationally and No. 6 in the region. Additionally, sophomore Yana Fleyer is Nationally ranked No. 43 and regionally No. 9. She and her doubles partner Sasha Davidzenka, also a sophomore, are ranked No. 9 in the region as a duo.

At No. 1 doubles, Ana Carla Resende (Minas Gerais, Brazil) and Ali Harris (Crossville, Tenn.) were defeated by Yana Fleyer and Sasha Davidzenka 6-4. At No. 2, Hannah Price (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Abby Reis (Des Moines, IA) fell to Isabel Fornies and Caity Klaassen 6-1. Rounding out the doubles competition was Alisa Liashova (Ukraine) and Klara Vuckovic (Germany) who couldn't muster a win against Viktorija Veselinova and Hannah Lehfeldt.

In singles play, the Eagles were able to take three matches into three sets putting up a hard fight against the Royals. However, only Liashova was able to come out with a victory at the No. 4 position. She battled Klaassen winning the first set 6-2 but falling 3-6 in the second. In the third and final set, she prevailed winning it 6-4 to get the Eagles on the board.

Harris and Reis were the only other two that came within reach of dubs at Mossy Creek. Harris took Davidzenka to three sets at No. 2 winning the first 6-4 and narrowly falling short in the second 5-7. She was held at bay staying just a step behind Davidzenka and lost the third set 4-6 to lose the point. Reis went head to head with Veselinova in a tight match that was so close to going her way. She dropped the first set 6-2 but fought back and won the second 7-5. The two duked it out in a third set tiebreaker where Reis went ahead 7-4. Just three points away from winning her match, she wasn't able to hold off Veselinova's comeback and lost the tiebreaker 10-7.

At No. 1 singles, Resende's four match winning streak was cut short as she fell to Fleyer 6-4, 6-3 in a disappointing loss. Price represented the Eagles at the No. 3 position but dropped her match against Fornies 6-4, 6-0. Vuckovic was the last Eagle to play and was unable to find momentum against Lehfeldt falling 6-2, 6-3.
