WINGATE, N.C. - The Carson-Newman women's tennis team begins its fall season Saturday, Sept. 7 at 9 a.m. at the Wingate Invitational in Wingate, N.C.

The event is an opportunity for the Eagles to move from the middle of the pack toward the top after finishing 9-10 overall and in 6th place in the South Atlantic Conference. The Eagles were five up and five down in conference play with wins over Lincoln Memorial, Newberry, Coker, Mars Hill and Anderson.

The women's side comes into the new season with greater experience than their male teammates, with seniors Alisha Liashova (Ukraine) and Klara Vuckovic (Germany) and juniors Abby Reis (Des Moines, I.A.) and Hannah Price (Knoxville, T.N.) all returning to Mossy Creek.

The team ended their season on a bit of a slide, losing to Lenoir-Rhyne 4-3 before losing to Wingate 6-0 and then the Bears again 4-2 at the SAC Championship Quarterfinals.

Head coach Jim Frederick intends to use a jam-packed autumn schedule to help prepare his team for the long-haul. The second-year Eagle coach has set up a total of five events for the first half of the season, the most in program history.

"You get more work done in the fall," Frederick said. "The weather's nicer, we can practice longer when and we go indoors we have a little less time to practice."

"The fall is really important and if you look at your top teams they all play five or six events in the fall."
