VIDEO: Jim Frederick Previews ITA Southeast Regional Qualifier

SUMPTER, S.C. – Four members of the Carson-Newman women's tennis team have been invited to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southeast Regional Qualifier in Sumpter, South Carolina from Friday, Sept. 27th to Monday, Sept. 30th

Freshman Ana Carla Resende (Minas Gerais, Brazil), junior Hannah Price (Knoxville, TN) and senior Alisa Liashova (Ukraine) will all appear at the competition.

Resende currently sits as the 11th-ranked player in the region.

"As she improves her level of play, she'll improve her ranking," head coach Jim Frederick said. "Some of it depends on what the draw is, who she plays, when she plays them and that's totally out of her hands so we'll just have to make the best of the situation."

Price is fresh off of an upset victory over the 58th-ranked player in the nation, Wingate's Elena Bompieri, in a third-set tiebreaker by a score of 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 at the Wingate Invitational.

"She has a couple of more wins like that and she's going to get ranked also," Frederick said. "That's a goal of her's and our's, I mean the more players that get ranked, it helps in recruiting, it helps in terms of getting seeded, so it's a big deal."

Resende and Price both lost matches via third-set tiebreaker at the Wingate Invitational on Sept. 9th which is an aspect Frederick expects improvement upon.

"Well we've been working on it… every good practice has a simulation of match play," Frederick said. "I mean you don't do anything in practice you don't get in matches so that's something we've been working on."

Things get started on Friday at 1:00 p.m. when Price will face Augusta's Gobermate. Resende will then play against Land of Francis Marion and Bigotti of defending champion Columbus State at 4:00 p.m.

In double's play, Liashova will team up with Resende versus Vicky Beardsley and Una Pandurevic of Catawba.
