Play at Mossy Creek opens with loss to Bulldogs

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- Unable to get anything started in both doubles and singles play, Carson-Newman women's tennis fell in straight succession to the No. 11 Wingate Bulldogs to open South Atlantic Conference play at the Buddy Catlett Tennis Complex.

For the Eagles (4-3, 0-1 SAC), the loss is the first time that the team has been swept on the season. Win the win, the Bulldogs move to 3-0 on the season and open SAC play in the win column.

Doubles play began with all three pairings claiming numerous games before falling to the Bulldogs. The No. 3 pairing of Alisa Liashova (Ukraine) and Klara Vuckovic (Reutlingen, Germany) played to a 7-6 (8-6) tiebreaker to highlight the C-N performance in the opening stanza.

Moving to singles, the Eagles failed to claim a single set, respectively.

Preseason All-SAC First-Team member Alisa Rudenko was able to get the best of her preseason first-team foe Ana Carla Resende (Minas Gerais, Brazil) by a 6-3, 6-4 scoreline.

Second-team member Camilla Ciaccia was slotted into the No. 3 singles spot for Wingate, defeating Tash Forrest (Jersey, United Kingdom) by a 6-1, 6-0 final.

Vuckovic at No. 6 singles was able to force the first set against Flaminia Guidantoni to a tiebreaker, but was unable to pick up the set victory before falling 6-7 (4-7), 2-6.

The Eagles will look to get back on track Saturday when they travel to Newberry. Opening serve is set for 2 p.m.
