Year: First Year

Edgar Weiser is in his first year as Carson-Newman's wide receivers coach and associate head coach.

Weiser is no stranger to developing big play wide receiver talent.  He coaches ENMU's first-team All-Lone Star Conference wide receiver Andre Jones.  The freshman wideout caught 32 passes for 727 yards and seven touchdowns.

Weiser returned to ENMU after a year at Idaho State. He had spent the previous eight seasons in Super Region II with Mississippi College.  He had coached the Choctaws since 2014. During that time, he was the offensive line coach from 2014-18 and the special teams coach and wide receivers coach from 2019-21. There he coached senior Lawrence Guyot to become the fifth player in school history to earn CoSIDA Academic All-American honors.

He came to MC after an eight-year career as an assistant coach at the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky.  He worked each of those eight years with the offense and special teams under head coach John Bland.

In 2013, the Patriots went 13-1 and advanced to the NAIA national championship game.  UC led all of NAIA with 355.6 rushing yards per game and scored a nation-leading 616 points.  The Patriots also led the country in third-down percentage, converting over 53% of their opportunities.  Cumberlands also ranked fifth in the nation in points per game (44.0) and ninth in passing efficiency.  Four offensive Patriots earned First Team All-Mid-South Conference honors, while three earned Second Team selections.

Weiser helped guide one of the best offenses in the NAIA in 2012, as well as guiding them to a 10-2 record and a first round NAIA FCS victory. Between 2007-2010, UC won the Mid-South Conference (MSC) East three times, as well as the MSC West once and advanced to the NAIA Football Championship Series Playoffs in six of his eight seasons. He coordinated the offensive and special teams units that were ranked amongst the top units in the country.

The Cumberlands offense had much success under Weiser. In 2012, ranked first in the country in total rushing offense (4,023), second in the country in rushing offense per game (335.30), third in the country in scoring offense (540), and also third in the country in scoring offense per game (45.00).

The special teams units were also a key component to UC's success. In 2013, placekicker Al Merrick was a First Team All-MSC selection, while punter Mitchell Mascaro was a Second Team pick. In 2010, UC's punter, Mitchell Mascaro, was named MSC Special Teams Player of the Week twice. Brendan Kelly was third in total Punt Returns (287), and returned three kicks for TD's (1KOR, 2PR).

That year the Patriots also finished first in the nation as a team for punt return yds per attempt (22.00). In 2009, UC finished ranked 8th in the country in kickoff returns (22.8 ypr). In 2008, Maurice Berryhill was ranked 7th in the nation in punt returns (13.2 ypr) and 15th in the nation in kickoff returns (24.2 ypr). In 2007, Moses Cochran led the nation in kickoff returns for touchdowns with three.

Weiser came to the University of the Cumberlands after spending two years as a high school assistant coach in Texas. As the offensive line coach at Hendrickson High School (Pflugerville, Texas) and Crockett (Austin, Texas) he helped lead Hendrickson to their first playoff appearance in school history (2005). Weiser was also instrumental in guiding an offensive line unit that opened up holes for three different running backs that gained 500 yards or more.

Weiser spent the 2003 season as the tight ends coach at Southeast Missouri State University (SEMO) where he coached first team all Ohio Valley Conference and 2nd team All-American tight end Ray Goodson.

In 2002, Weiser served as the tight ends coach at the University of Nebraska-Omaha (UNO). While at UNO, his tight ends helped the Mavericks lead the North Central Conference in rushing. They averaged an impressive 208 yards per game.

In 2001 Weiser was a graduate assistant wide receiver coach at Southern Arkansas University and in 2000 he coached defensive and tight ends at his alma mater Las Cruces High School in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Las Cruces High won the 2000 New Mexico Class 5A state championship.

Weiser, originally from Las Cruces, N.M., attended college and played football at Eastern New Mexico University (1996-99) in Portales. While playing at ENMU he started two years at tight end and one year at defensive end. In 1999 ENMU won the Lone Star Conference South Division championship.

In 2000 Weiser received his Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education with a minor in History from ENMU and in 2003 he earned his Master's degree in Education from Southern Arkansas University.
