Carson-Newman Athletics Hall of Fame

Living and Competing Like Champions

NOMINATION FORM

Among the membership of the Carson-Newman Athletics Hall of Fame are spread the headlines and footnotes of Carson-Newman's athletics history.  As was the case at many institutions in the 19th century, sports at then Carson-Newman College were regarded as incidental to education. Such activities were therefore relegated to purposes of recreation and relaxation until the institution's first Field Day - June 3, 1893.  Within just two years of that event, a baseball team was organized and had posted a victory in the school's first intercollegiate contest, a 4-3 win over the University of Tennessee.

These tributes in this Hall grant a sense of the physical ability and athletic excellence that have been mainstays of the Carson-Newman educational experience for more than 120 years.

Interest in establishing Carson-Newman's Athletics Hall of Fame began in the early 1980s, First came stories from those who loved discussing particular games, as well sas the plays and players that made them special.  Those conversations led President Cordell Maddox to form an administrative committee.  That body chose the initial inductees and oversaw the 1985 enshrinement of the Hall's charter class of seven men and one woman - Dana X. Bible, Roy Harmon, Sam B. "Frosty" Holt, Mae Iddins, Bernie Moore, Lake Russell, Milas "Slim" Shoun and Earnest Tucker.

Originally reserved exclusively for letter winners, nominations are now open to those who have played an official sport across the institution's history and are 10 years removed from the conclusion of their Carson-Newman career.  in 1994, membership was likewise opened to those who invested their lives in leading or promoting C-N sports. Coaches Dick Campbell (basketball) and Bobby Wilson (baseball) were inducted the following year.

Space has been reserved in this Hall for those whose stories continue to speak to sports exellence and whose lives continue to share the Truth, Beauty and Goodness on which a Carson-Newman education and athletic experience are based.

The Criteria for membership to the C-N Athletics Hall of Fame are as follows:
