Class of 1993

John Ed Dowling (1937) -- Dowling earned ten (10) athletic letters as an Eagle: football (4), basketball (2), and baseball (4). The multi-letter winner was offensive and defensive back on the undefeated and untied 1936 football team. Following his graduation, he distinguished himself professionally as a teacher and coach at Young High School in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Libby Hudson Gardner (1968) -- Libby represented Carson-Newman in intercollegiate competition in the sports of basketball, volleyball, tennis and swimming. Three times voted the Female Athlete of the Year at Carson-Newman, she coached the Lady Eagle basketball team in the early 70’s and the Carson-Newman volleyball squad for eleven seasons. She continues to serve as Assistant Professor of Physical Education at the college.
