Class of 2012

David Barger (1970) -- Barger has served C-N athletics in various capacities for over 32 years and is one of the University’s longest and most loyal supporters. He began his undergraduate work as a student trainer, later served as Director of Promotions and Development, and held the position of AD for twenty-two years. His tenure was marked by expanded media coverage, as well as, radio and TV, the first $100,000 fund raising campaign in Eagle Club history, transition to the NCAA, the first conference school to play for a NCAA national championship, and a 25% increase in student athlete participation. Barger was named AD Emeritus on May 1, 2012.

Jerry Cannon (1967) -- NAIA All-American, Jerry Cannon was named all-conference and all-tournament on five different occasions as a member of C-N’s basketball team. In 1964, Cannon was a member of the AAU Goodwill Team that toured South America, and in 1967 he participated in the Tennessee/Kentucky College All-Star Game. Cannon scored 1,462 points during his career. Retired educator and active in community service, Cannon is a member of Westpark Baptist Church of Knoxville.

Joe Fishback (1990) -- NAIA All-American, Joe Fishback was one of C-N’s most decorated football players. He participated in national championship games four consecutive years (1986, 1988, 1989/Runner-Up in 1987.) Fishback also played five seasons in the NFL with Atlanta, NY Jets, and Dallas. He was a special teams’ player on the Cowboys 1994 Super Bowl XXVIII Championship Team.

Mark Isom (1985) -- As a defensive standout, Isom was a member of the 1983 and 84 national championship teams earning All American honors in 1985. He has provided significant energy and resources to both the athletics department, and Carson-Newman University. Receiving numerous awards as a CEO and minority business owner, Isom also serves on several local, state, and regional boards and committees. He was tabbed as the C-N 2009-10 Distinguished Alumnus Award recipient.

Lib Julian (1958) -- An aggressive team leader on the Eagle Basketball hardwood, this two sport athlete also played as a catcher for Coach Frosty Holt, and was drafted by the LA Dodgers playing professionally for 7 years. Julian served his country in the US Army and later as a school principal. He enjoyed a 27 year business career with Waffle House, retiring as Senior Executive VP for Operations. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Norcross, GA.
