Lady Eagles top Flagler, 3-1; Fall to No. 4 North Georgia, 6-1, at Mid-South

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Carson-Newman used a two-run fifth inning to build a 3-1 and C-N starter pitched out of two late-inning jams as the Lady Eagles won their nightcap over Flagler at the Mid-South Tournmanet. C-N lost to No. 4 North Georgia in its opener, 6-1.

C-N move to 14-6 on the year with the split.

Game 2 – Carson-Newman 3, Flagler 1

Shealy had a double fourth-inning double and scored the game's first run, and would never trail as the Lady Eagles beat Flagler, 3-1.

Shealy scattered eight hits as C-N's starter to move to 14-6 on the year. She struck out only two, but induced 10 fly balls to lead the way in the win.

Catcher Bri Shoemake had an RBI single and C-N took advantage of a Flagler error during a two-run fifth inning as the Lady Eagles scored the decisive two runs. The junior singled to centerfield to score Jessica Morgan and Kim Whaley walked and came around on a Flagler throwing error as C-N built a 3-1 through five.

Shealy gave up an infield single and a base hit to left in the sixth ass Flagler threatened with one out, but the senior came through with her second strikeout of the game and induced a pop out to centerfield to pitch out of the jam.

Game 1 - No. 4 North Georgia 6, Carson-Newman 1

No. 4 North Georgia outhit the Lady Eagles, 12-3, en route to a 6-0 victory in Friday night's opener.

The Saints put up three runs in both the third and sixth innings. Saints starter Jessica Coan struck out 14 batters for NGU in the win.

C-N picked up its only run in the seventh as Bethany Davis doubled and scored. Freshman Jessica Morgan also had a single in the inning.

The Lady Eagles play twice on Saturday at the Mid-South Classic. C-N faces Armstrong Atlantic State at noon and Le Moyne at 4 p.m.
