Eagles Take Down Mars Hill to get back in the Win Column

Mars Hill, N.C. – After a week off to prepare for the meet against Mar Hill, the Eagles take home the victory in a score of 245-161 on Saturday afternoon.

"Coming out of the week off, it's more about how we utilize this train block moving forward and it's very obvious today as to where we are in training," said head coach Ben Young. "It is more about ensuring that we get in what we need to now we don't have to worry about it later. It definitely looked like we had a weekend off, the team needed the rest and it showed today."

In the meet at Mars Hill last season, Carson-Newman outscored the Lions 256-149. Carson-Newman looked to continue their string of dominance over the Lions in the first of two meets against Mars Hill this season.

"Mars Hill continues to bring in solid swimmers and the amount of progress that they have made as a program has been great to see," said Young. "We will see them again in January for senior night, so I'm excited to see the program continue to move in a positive direction."

On the men's side, standout performances included junior Aurthur Gluzman who earned a first place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (21:12), Daniel De Oliverira placing first in the 100-yard freestyle, and Ryan Berry finishing first in the 100-yard breaststroke. The men's squad outscored the Lions in a score of 112-93.

"On the men's side, Chase Baker stood out to me in the mile," Young said. "He didn't win but that was the first time that he swam the mile, and I thought that he did an incredible job. It definitely showed what he has been doing in practice and the amount of hard work he's been putting in the past eight weeks."

The women's squad outscored Mars Hill 133-68 in a dominating set of performances. Hannah Huntsman placed first in the 1650-yard freestyle in a time of 18:38.22, Emma Bowling earned first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.10) and in the 100-yard freestyle (54:38), and Megan Corcoran won first in the 400-yard IM in a time of 4:34.69.

"On the women's side, Emma Bowling had a great 100-yard freestyle and 200-yard freestyle," said Young. "I thought it was a great race for her. She has a love-hate relationship with the 2-free, so to see her do that was really good to see."

The Eagles return home after the three-meet road trip and welcome in Emory & Henry as well as Milligan on Saturday, Nov. 2 in the Maddox Student Activities Center beginning at 11:00 a.m.

"The conversation after the meeting today was about how we need to turn the page," Young said. "The mistakes that we are making in week eight are understandable in the beginning of the season, but at this point we need to fix the minor details that we continue to make every time that we race."
