C-N Swim Takes On Day One Of SAC Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Carson-Newman Swimming kicked off the 2025 South Atlantic Conference Championships this Tuesday with events one and two being the 800-yard freestyle relay.

Event one saw the Eagles women's squad take on the 800-yard freestyle relay where the team of swimmers Maria Tirulli, Lillian Hilt, Lily Parr and Kate Salisbury finished in third place with a final time of 7:46.15. C-N fell behind first place Wingate with a time of 7:26.49 and second place Catawba finishing in 7:33.27.

"We came ready to race with two very good swims," said head coach Ben Young. "On the women's side, many of them stepped up and swam really well. Lillian Hilt had a very good 200 tonight which was great to see."

The men's swimmers were Daniel de Oliveira, Gabriel Bozzolo, Jake Sell and Arthur Gluzman for the 800-year freestyle relay. The squad was struck with a disqualification due to a false start call after originally finishing seconfd overall. This resulted in the team receiving zero points for the opening event.

"We were unlucky with the false start," said Young. "Seeing how the team came together after that and the conversation has been focused on moving on. It's night one and we still have four more days to go."

Tomorrow sees the Eagles take on the first full day of events beginning with preliminaries beginning at 10am and the finals for events beginning at 5pm.

"We need to focus on taking this one session at a time," Young said. "As opposed to trying to view it as one big ole thing. Just take it a session at a time and do what you can in that session. We need to learn from each one of them but not dwell on them."

Carson-Newman swimming begins day two of the 2025 South Atlantic Conference Championships Wednesday, Feb. 5 with prelims at 10am and finals at 5pm.
