GREENSBORO, N.C. – Carson-Newman Swimming capped off day two of the 2025 South Atlantic Conference Championships with both men's and women's squads slotted third overall.
The Eagles currently sit in third place overall on both sides after the second day of the SAC Championships. The men's team racked up a total score of 306 putting them behind first place Winagte (469.5) and second place Catawba (376.5). On the women's side, the team accumulated a score of 302 which puts them in third behind first place Wingate (489) and second place Catawba (481).
"I thought the day went really well and was a great way to bounce back from somewhat of a disappointing end the first night," said head coach Ben Young. "The message to the team today was to make sure that we understood that each session is a new session and each day is an opportunity to take care of business. The team most certainly did that tonight."
Senior swimmer Asger Hartvig had a standout performance earning gold in the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:50.01 and earning a NCAA DII "B" cut time. The men's 200-yard medley relay saw swimmers Will Humphreys, Asger Hartvig, Christian Balint and Tyler Schehr lock down a second place finish with a final time of 1:28.85. Arthur Gluzman secured a podium finish with a bronze in the 50-yard freestyle and a NCAA DII "B" cut time. .
"Asger with his 200 IM win was a massive swim for him and quite frankly a perfect swim for him today," Young said. "Arthur Gluzman getting third in the 50-yard freestyle was great to see from him as well."
Megan Corcoran lit up the pool with her swim in the 200-yard IM when she won second overall in a time of 2:03.32 and earned a NCAA DII "B" cut time. The 200-yard medley relay saw swimmers Sarah Covington, Breanna Belcher, Martina Ivanova and Olivia Muir round out the top-3 with a bronze performance with a time of 1:43.67.
"Megan Corcoran 200 IM swim was absolutely fantastic," said Young. "Racing stroke for stroke with both the Wingate and Catawba girls. It came down to who wanted it more at the end and with Megan getting second was a massive swim."
The Eagles end day two with three podium finishes and the team looks forward to what day three will bring.
"I really liked that we stayed focused from prelims to finals and that we bounced back from opening night," Young said. "We talk to the team year over year and where we were at this time last year. The improvement was made year over year. It was almost like we were in shock getting to Conference last year, but this year has been fun to watch this team continue to grow and work together to create the program that we have made."
Carson-Newman Swimming continues with day three of the 2025 South Atlantic Conference Championships tomorrow, Feb. 6 with prelims starting at 10am and finals kicking off at 5pm.
"Tomorrow we want to focus on making improvements from the previous days," said Young. "Lots of big swims for us tomorrow and we're looking forward to the opportunity to make some moves in the finals."
