Eagles finish first, Lady Eagles claim second at Mountain Laurel Invitational

SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Carson Newman College track team performed well at Sewanee on Saturday in the Mountain Laurel Invitational. The Eagles won their meet, while the Lady Ealges finished second. Overall both teams had the highest combined score.

All athletes who competed scored.

Men
Andrew Pickwell won the high jump and is close to a national qualifying jump. Second place finisher Stephen Brown also is just a few inches from qualifying. The 400-meter relay team of Jason Brown, Justin Hicks, Nate Inman and Solomon Duanah started the season off with a win. Duanah had three first place finishes in the 100-meter dash, 200 (tie) and 400. Brown had two first place finishes (long jump and 400 relay). Jordan Chaffin had two first place finishes as well in the 1600-meter relay and a tie in 200. Joe McMurray won shot put and discus.

Women
Rachel Logeman (400), Torie Branch (shot put) and Brittany Burleson (discus) all finished first in their respective events. McKenzie Wampler finished second in the shot put and javelin.

The team next travels to Williamsburg, Ky. to participate in The University of the Cumberlands meet on Saturday, April 9.
