Eagles finish fourth, Lady Eagles take seventh at Southeast regional meet

HICKORY, N.C. – The Carson-Newman Eagles won the high jump, long jump, triple jump, and 110-meter hurdles en route to finishing fourth at the 2012 Southeast Regional meet, held on the Lenoir-Rhyne Campus on Friday and Saturday.

The Eagles finished fourth with 123.5 points, 15 behind Wingate University for second place and 31 points behind Mars Hill, who dominated the distance races. The Lions won with 154 points.

The Lady Eagles finished seventh in their meet with 49 points.

C-N dominated the high jump as Stephen Brown won the event at 2.00 M, while Jason Brown tied for third with Andrew Pickrell at 1.9 M.

The Eagles followed with an impressive triple jump showing as Cassandine Blassingame won the event with a jump of 13.85M, while Randall Freeman went 13.7M to take third, and Jason Brown reached 13.16M to grabbed sixth.

Jason Brown added a win in the long jump to his impressive day, reaching 6.86 M to win the event, besting teammate Marcus Walker's jump of 6.57M as the Eagles took the top two spots.

Carson-Newman's Darius Childs took the 110M hurdles with a time of 15.41, winning by over a half second. Jadamion Ross added a second place finish in the 400M hurdles with a time of 58.50 seconds.

Sophomore Lucas Mathis finished second in the men's shot put by .14M with a throw of 14.2M. He was also seventh in the discus.

Freeman finished fourth in the hammer throw (44.3 M) and eighth in the men's discus.

C-N's Anthony Goins was third in the 100M with a time of 10.98 seconds, while Solomon Duanah was fifth in the 100M with a time of 11.2 seconds. Goins lost the race by .02 seconds.

In the relays, the Eagles' team of Duanah, Jason Brown, Goins, and Anthony Baskin took second, falling to UNC Pembroke by four-hundredths of a second.

For the women, Kristen Eubanks took second in the 100M hurdles at 17.04 seconds and second in the pole vault with a 2.9 M vault. Eubanks also finished third in the 400M hurdles at 1:09.89.

Alexis Connor had a fifth place finish in the long jump for the women, reaching 4.57M with her best effort.
