KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman men's and women's track and field teams competed in the Sea Ray Relays at the University of Tennessee this week along with numerous Division 1 schools.

Freshman TJ Davis set a personal best in the long jump with a leap of 23'6.75", finishing in sixth-place and provisionally qualifying for nationals with his results.  He beat out 19 Division I jumpers with his leap, including athletes from Michigan State, Middle Tennessee State, Southern Illinois and Eastern Michigan.  

"The better competition really brought out the best in us, especially our jumps." Head Track and Field Coach David Needs said, "We are especially proud of TJ for provisionally qualifying as a freshman."

In addition to Davis' accomplishments, Freshman Tiana Mills placed 21^st in the Women's Triple Jump with a mark of 35' 7.25". Jazzimine Hodges also placed 21^st in the Women's Long Jump.

In the men's triple jump Cassadine Blassingame, TJ Davis and Luther Walker placed 11^th, 13^th and 14^th respectively.

In sprinting events, the women's 4x100 meter relay team of Azor, White, Bauder and Miller finished in 49.04, a season best for the group of athletes.  

The Eagles travel to Hickory, N.C. to compete in the Food Lion SAC Championship next week.
