ALLENDALE, Mich. - Just a week removed from an All-America run in the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships, senior Luke Greer posted a new school record in the 5000-meter run with a time of 14:23.60  on Friday evening in the Grand Valley State University Holiday Open at the Kelly Family Sports Center.

"My body is ready for a rest," Greer said. "I just tried to use the confidence I had coming off last weekend and use it in this run to keep pushing and try to hang on until the end. It didn't quite work out how we wanted but it definitely provided a lot of experience moving into the rest of the season."

Greer checked in with a ninth-place finish in the 14:23.60 timed run which sits below the automatic qualifying mark needed for NCAA's. The time, however, does sit over 17 seconds better than the 14:41.13 D2P Division II Provisional mark.

"Overall I was very satisfied with what he was able to," Coach Eric Phillips said. "Luke has proved he's a force to be reckoned with this past season and we expect people to keep an eye on him as we move into the indoor season. He hung with some of the best in the nation on Friday and I was really proud of that and to have a performance coming off a high like the All-America run is outstanding. The run puts him on the bubble for the NCAA's but we will and need to keep pushing to improve that mark."

The Northhampton, England native will lie low until the end of January when the indoor track & field season is in full swing. Greer currently holds four indoor program records.
