Men's Track & Field enter top-20 of USTFCCCA TFRI

NEW ORLEANS, La. - After falling out of the top-25, the Carson-Newman men's track & field shot up seven spots to 18th in the newest USTFCCCA National Ratings Index released on Tuesday, May 3.

It is the first time the Eagles have entered the top-20 this season, joining no. 12 Queens as the only SAC teams in the rankings. West Texas A&M remains at no. one in the national rankings.

In the event squad rankings, the Carson-Newman men's 100-meter team ranks as the second fastest team in Division-II with an average time of 10.38 seconds. Siphosethu Boya set the tenth-fastest time in Division-II at the Vanderbilt Outdoor Music City Challenge, finishing second in the race with a time of 10.30 seconds.

His teammate Devon Moore sits at 18th in the nation with a time of 10.40 seconds, also set in Nashville. Makanakaishe Charamba sits behind Moore at 20th with a time of 10.41 seconds recorded at the Lee Flames Invitational.

PJ Lotharp rounds out the list for the Eagles, sitting at 22nd with a time of 10.42 seconds in the event. 

The quartet teamed together for the first time this season in the 4x100 meter relay, winning the race at Vandy with a time of 40.44 seconds, beating out Division-I Arkansas State by 0.78 seconds in the event. The team also beat out the teams from no. 23 ranked D-II Lindenwood and UT-Martin. 

The time beats the school record mark of 40.59 seconds set earlier in the year by Boya, Charamba, Lotharp and Tshenelo Lemao at the Electric City Invite just seven days ago in Anderson, S.C.

The mark is also the tenth-fastest time in all of Division-II, beating out Pittsburg State for the top-10 spot by  0.07 seconds.
