ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Luke Greer (Abington, United Kingdom) picks up victory number two on the season running a 20:15.91 four-mile run at the Asheville Cross Country Invitational on Saturday morning.

"Overall, a great day for the team," Carson-Newman cross country coach Tyler Stepp said. "Luke went home this summer and did some stuff to stay in shape and it's worked so far this season, with a 2-0 start. It's always fun going to the meet knowing that you have the best runner in the competition. "

Greer is the first runner to win two races in a season since Lachlan Dickie achieved the feat during the 2014 cross country season.

The Eagles raced against ten other schools on Saturday morning including five division one opponents. The Carson-Newman cross country teams also squared off against fellow South Atlantic Conference foe Lenoir-Rhyne.

Freshman Kelvin Ronoh had his second top-ten finish of the season with a sixth place finish in the meet. Ronoh finished with a time of 21.00.56. Amos Korir (Eldoret, Kenya) finished just inside the top-15 with a 14th place finish with a run of 21.20.27.

Anthony Jackson (Manchester, Tenn.) finished third on the team with a time of 22:57.20. Jared Eddy (Harrison, Tenn.) and Jeremiah McCarter (Sevierville, Tenn.) rounded out the race for the Eagles finishing in 79th and 86th place respectively.

"I think that our men's team is hitting their stride just in time for the conference meet coming up," Stepp replied.

The women's cross country team ran a two-mile loop and was led by junior runner Priscah Jemeli (Eldoret, Kenya) who came in 30th place overall with a time of 12:47.48. Freshman Lindsey Williams (Wilmington, N.C.) came in second place on the team with an overall time of 12.52.07.

Junior runners Bekah White (Rockford, Tenn.) and Skye McCarter (Sevierville, Tenn.) finished in 40th and 41st place with almost identical times. White finished with a time of 13:09.08 while McCarter finished the run with a time of 13:09.35.

Moments later Jennifer Warren (Piney Flats, Tenn.) and Sarah Sharp (Lewis Center, Ohio) crossed the finishing stripe with times of 13:53.29 and 13.56.10. Ashlyn Page (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Esther Njeri (Eldoret, Kenya) rounded out the meet for the Eagles finishing in 83rd and 88th respectively.

"The women's team took a big step forward since the Tusculum meet and they look to be getting better everyday," Stepp answered.

The Eagles next race will be at home at Mossy Creek on Friday, October 6th.
