JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- Senior guard Ty Rowland poured in 19
points to lead Georgia College to an 82-70 victory over
Carson-Newman on Friday night in game one of the Dick Campbell
Memorial Classic at Holt Fieldhouse.
With the loss, the Eagles fall to 3-2 on the season, while the
Bobcats improve to 3-0.
The Eagles shot 40 percent from the field (24-of-60) on the night,
including a 7-of-16 effort from behind the arc. Georgia College
made 43.2 percent (32-of-74) of its attempts. The Bobcats did
plenty of damage from 3-point range, shooting at a 40.7 percent
(11-of-27) clip.
Junior guard J.J. Wesley (Mobile, Ala.) led three Eagles in double
figures with 24 points, including four 3-pointers. Sophomore guard
Cameron Sharp (Knoxville, Tenn.) added 13 points and four assists,
while Sophomore forward Quinche Dowdell (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) pitched
in 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
Jake Rios added 14 points for Georgia College, while Graham Martin
and Reece Wiedeman tallied 13 and 10 points, respectively, in the
win.
Georgia College held a 43-33 lead at the break, but C-N battled
back to cut the Bobcats' lead to 43-38 on a jumper by Wesley at the
18:23 mark of the second half.
However, Georgia College went on a 22-10 run capped off by a pair
of free throws by Robert Thomas to put the game out of reach at
65-48 with 9:50 left in the contest.
C-N returns to action in the Dick Campbell Memorial Classic on
Saturday. The Eagles are set to take on North Georgia at 4 p.m.,
while Georgia College and Tusculum are slated to play the first
game at 2 p.m. at Holt Fieldhouse.
