Carson-Newman Climbs to 10th in AFCA Poll

WACO, Texas — The Carson-Newman Eagles moved up four spots to No. 10 in this week’s American Football Coaches Association Poll, which was released on Monday.

The Eagles (9-2, 7-0 SAC) defeated South Atlantic Conference rival Tusculum, 70-35, on Saturday to close out regular season play on a nine-game winning streak.

C-N, which is the only SAC team in the rankings, has faced two teams in the AFCA Top 25 this season. The Eagles defeated No. 11 UNC-Pembroke, 35-22, and lost at No. 5 North Alabama, 31-14, in September. North Alabama lost its No. 1 ranking this week after being upset by West Alabama, 31-28, in four overtimes on Saturday.

The Eagles received a first-round by on Sunday in the NCAA Division II Playoffs as the No. 2 seed in Super Region Two. C-N will host the winner of Saturday’s first-round matchup between sixth-seeded West Alabama and third-seeded Albany State on Nov. 21 at Burke-Tarr Stadium.
