ROCK HILL, S.C. – For the first time in her career, Kayla Marosites was named the Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week when the league announced the honor Monday afternoon.

Carson-Newman went 2-0 over the weekend with wins over Georgia College and 14th-ranked North Georgia. In the pair of contests, Marosites averaged 18.5 points per game going 14-for-23, 61 percent, from the field while adding 15 rebounds, five steals and three assists.

"I have to thank my teammates for that," Marosites said. "They gave me open looks. We have so many people on our team that are able to score so other teams can't just focus on guarding Mika [Wester] and Haris [Price]. It leaves and other players open."

The Elizabethton, Tenn. native opened the weekend by racking up a second-straight double-double and 15th of her career with 14 points and 10 boards against the Bobcats. She went 4-for-7 from the field and six of seven at the line and added three steals.

In a tussle with No. 14 North Georgia on Saturday, the junior scored 23 points going 10-for-16 from the field in a 91-78 victory at UNG's Convocation Center. She added five rebounds, three assists and two steals.

On the season, the guard is one of four Lady Eagles to rank in the top 10 in the SAC in field-goal percentage ranking fourth making 57 percent of her shots. With 17.8 points per game, she is fifth in the league.

"We do have big expectations from last year," Marosites said. "We have a target on our back but we just keep our focus and take it one game at a time."

Marosites and her crew get back to work on Tuesday evening against Clayton State for a 6 p.m. tip-off from Holt Fieldhouse. Broadcast coverage can be found on cneagles.com/live and 106.3 (WPFT-FM).
