C-N back up one spot to sixth in final region ranking

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Thanks to a run to the SAC title game and wins over regionally-ranked foes Wingate and Lenoir-Rhyne, Carson-Newman is up a spot to sixth in the final iteration of the region rankings.

The ranking means that if the season were to end today, Carson-Newman would be bound for its 16th NCAA tournament in program history. In all reality, thanks to Lincoln Memorial and King clinching the SAC and Conference Carolinas championship berths, there is very little movement that could happen to knock C-N out of position for the region tournament.

The conference tournament champions from the South Atlantic Conference, Peach Belt and Conference Carolinas combined with the top five teams from the region rankings go on to make up the Southeast Regional.

The South Atlantic Conference is well-represented in the Southeast.  Anderson and Lenoir-Rhyne sit atop the rankings in first and second. Lincoln Memorial is a slot ahead of C-N in fifth, while Wingate sits a spot behind the Eagles in seventh. Queens is on the outside looking in in 10th

The Peachbelt is represented by two schools, North Georgia in third and Lander in ninth.  Conference Carolinas has two teams represented in King in fourth and Francis Marion in eighth.

Selections for the regional tournaments are announced on Monday, May 9, with the tournaments played from May 13-15. Each region has two, four-team sub-regional tournaments that are double-elimination and hosted on campus sites by the top two seeds in the region.
