  • Carson-Newman's Van Bruggen named CUATC’s 2012 Head Athletic Trainer of the Year

    JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman head athletic trainer Mike Van Bruggen has been named the 2012 Head Athletic Trainer of the Year for NCAA Division II schools. The award is given by the College & University Athletic Trainers Committee (CUATC) of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA). Van Bruggen is in his 12th year as Carson-Newman’s Head Athletic Trainer. He primarily serves as athletic trainer for C-N’s football and softball teams, while overseeing all aspects of health care for C-N's 450 student-athletes in 16 sports.

    JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — A shorthanded Carson-Newman Eagles team took the field in its annual Orange and Blue game Thursday at Burke-Tarr Stadium. Injuries once again took their toll through spring practice, with only four of Carson-Newman’s projected seven quarterbacks entering the game.

    JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — The Carson-Newman College football team held its first full-contact, full-pad scrimmage Saturday morning inside Burke-Tarr Stadium and they made it count. According to Ken Sparks, who will begin his 33rd season as the Eagles’ head coach, it was the longest football practice in team history, at three hours and 56 minutes counting the team meetings that morning.
