2009-'10 Lady Eagle Basketball Schedule

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- The Carson-Newman women's basketball team will face five participants from last season's NCAA Tournament as a part of its 2009-10 schedule, head coach Dean Walsh announced Monday.

The Lady Eagles, which went 19-11 last season and earned a berth to the NCAA Tournament, will travel to three Division I schools that received bids to the NCAA Tournament for exhibition games before starting regular season play.

C-N will begin its exhibition slate on Nov. 2 at NCAA Tournament participant Middle Tennessee State before heading to Knoxville on Nov. 5 to take on eight-time national champion University of Tennessee for the sixth straight year.

The Lady Eagles will wrap up preseason play on Nov. 10 at North Carolina, which is coached by C-N alum Sylvia Hatchell.

C-N opens regular season play with four consecutive home contests, including its home opener against Anderson on Nov. 15. The Lady Trojans, which made the 2009 NCAA Tournament, fell to C-N 80-68 in last year's meeting.

The Lady Eagles will then hit the road for eight of their next 10 ballgames, including their road opener against Georgia College on Nov. 27 in Columbus, Ga., in the Southeast Regional Challenge.

C-N's South Atlantic Conference opener will be on Dec. 5 at Lincoln Memorial. The Lady Eagles next two opponents -- Clayton State and USC Aiken -- earned berths into the 2009 NCAA Tournament.

C-N will face Clayton State on Dec. 12 in Marrow, Ga., in a rematch from last year's Southeast Regional, where the Lady Lakers eliminated the Lady Eagles with a 68-66 victory. The matchup with USC Aiken will take place on Dec. 19.

SAC Tournament champion Lenoir-Rhyne will travel to Holt Fieldhouse on Jan. 23 for a key conference matchup, and C-N will make the trip to Hickory, N.C., on Feb. 10 to take on the Bears for the second meeting.

The Lady Eagles will play SAC rival Tusculum in Greeneville, Tenn., on Jan. 16 and at Holt Fieldhouse on Feb. 13. Tusculum went 2-1 against C-N last season, including an 85-70 victory in the SAC Tournament semifinals.

C-N closes out the regular season at Wingate on Feb. 27, with SAC Tournament play beginning on March 3.
