CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Marnie Streeter notched her second double-double of the year and Morgan Ballard tallied 36 digs as Carson-Newman fell in three sets 20-25, 10-25 and 25-27 Saturday afternoon at the Levine Center during South Atlantic Conference play.
After posting a four-match winning streak against the Royals, Carson-Newman (7-8, 4-7) has now lost three consecutive matches against Queens (12-4, 7-3).
With 11 kills and 12 digs, Streeter (Goldvein, Va.) led the team in smashes while registering her third double-double in her career.
Friday night Ballard had a season-low eight digs but the Weaverville, N.C. native countered with 36 scoops, her third highest mark on the year.
Madison Rademacher (Broomfield, Colo.) handed out a team-high 17 assists while piling up nine digs.
A solo block from Alex Biro (Ootlewah, Tenn.) was the lone rejection marked by the Eagles as C-N had three aces and 78 digs while hitting .118.
Queens was red hot to start the match with five kills on seven swings racing out to a 10-0 lead. Carson-Newman flipped the script in a hurry taking nine of the next 10 points to pull within two at 11-9. The Eagles could not get any closer than two points won four of the final five points to seize the first set behind five kills from Jessica Raines.
The second stanza was a similar start for the home team as Queens won 14 of the first 17 rallies. One of eight attack errors from Carson-Newman in the frame ended the set putting the Royals on top 2-0.
After the two teams started level in the third set, Carson-Newman used an 11-3 sequence to jump on top 15-8, its largest lead of the match. Queens started the comeback trail winning 10 of the next 13 points to tie the score at 18. After fighting off three match points, Rebecca Cochran put the match on ice with a kill.
The Royals notched a .219 attack percentage while picking up three blocks, six aces and 82 digs.
Raines led all players with 12 kills on a .323 as the only player on her team with more than eight blasts. Sydney Kunz notched a double-double with 35 assists and 16 digs to go along with four service aces. Jaycee Jones had 23 digs.
The Eagles step away from league play next with four matches against the Peach Belt Conference in the SAC/PBC Crossover beginning Friday afternoon at Lander at noon and against Georgia College at 4 p.m.
