MORRISTOWN, Tenn.—The Carson-Newman cross country team participated in the yearly Blue/Orange Meet Saturday morning in preparation for the regular season.

The blue team, captained by Patrick Stump (Leesburg, Va.), proved victorious over Aiyana Martino's (Kallspell, Mont.) orange squad, by receiving a lower overall point total of 53 to 57.

"I think they did great," coach Tony Parrilla said following the intrasquad meet. "We had a lot of surprises. I am very happy about the things we will be doing this year.

The running layout featured a multitude of hills on grassland along the four-kilometer route.
Newcomer Priscah Jemeli (Eldoret, Kenya) lead the way for the women by posting an impressive time of 18:20. Sophomore Lachlan Dickie (Knoxville, Tenn.) crossed the finish line first for the men, as he finished with a 14:46 time.
"Priscah and Lachlan are doing exactly what they came in to do," Parrilla said. "They came in to lead the team and came in to bring everybody up. I think they did that."

Carson-Newman will have another week of practice and will strive to stay as healthy as possible before the season opening meet at the Victor Ashe Fall Classic next Saturday in Knoxville.
"All we have to do is keep on improving and hurting," Parrilla said. "We are going to hurt, hurt, hurt, until it is time to rest."
