NEW ORLEANS—Carson-Newman cross country runners Sara Honaker (Mason, Ohio) and Hannah Green (Talbott, Tenn.) received All-Academic honors from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the 2015 season.

The individual All-Academic honor is awarded to those athletes who have compiled a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 and finished among the top 30 percent of eligible runners at his or her regional championships and/or the top half of the field at the NCAA Championships.

Honaker majors in Art Education at Carson-Newman and currently owns a 3.96 GPA. The junior has been listed on the Dean's list every semester she has been enrolled in school and has also been an Eagle Scholar since becoming eligible. The Mason, Ohio native is also active in Alpha Chi at C-N.  

An Eagle Scholar is a student athlete who maintains above a 3.25 GPA.

Green owns a 3.45 GPA while majoring in special education. The sophomore is an Eagle Scholar as well and was named to the Dean's List following her 2015 fall semester.

The duo's impressive GPA helped the Eagle cross country team to combine efforts for a 3.43 team GPA— the fourth highest team average of Carson-Newman's 19 varsity sports.

Cross country, along with women's golf, women's swimming and volleyball, aided the average GPA for all of Carson-Newman's student athletes that sits right above a three at 3.01.

Green's 2015 season-best came at the South Atlantic Conference Meet on Oct. 24, where the sophomore completed the women's five kilometer run with a 20:11.5 time.

Honaker's best showing of the cross country season also came at the SAC Meet in late October when the junior completed the running course with a 20:55.0 time.   

Both runners are set to begin the outdoor track and field season that is set to commence on March 19 at the Power Sox Invitational.
