2018 (Senior): Selected in the 21st round, 624th overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2018 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft… Appeared in 38 games with seven wins, 12 saves, five complete games and 122 strikeouts and 44 walks in 118 2/3 innings pitched. He posted a 7-8 overall record with a 4.63 earned run average… Racked up 12 saves that led the nation through the end of the regular season and was good for fifth at the end of the postseason, two behind the nation’s leaders and tied John Butler, 1999, for the second-most in school history… His 25 appearances ranked 28th in Division II. Eighteen of those games resulted in scoreless efforts out of the bullpen. Eight of his first nine trips to the mound this season were tallied as a save and the other was a victory… Gardner struck out 55 and walked 14 in 35 innings. He faced 162 batters on the year, punching out 34 percent of those hitters.

2017 (Junior): Led the team in wins, six, innings pitched, 83 2/3, strikeouts, 67, and complete games, five…Fired five complete games on the year to join a contingent of six C-N players in history with a quintet of complete games, good for the fifth-most in the program’s Division II era…Threw 247 pitches across two starts over in the SAC Championships registering a 1-1 record with a 1.80 earned run average with 10 strikeouts in 15 innings pitched as opponents hit just .220 against the right-hander…Posted a season-high nine punch outs at Catawba on Feb. 24…Went the distance in a win over Wingate on April 15 allowing just one run on seven hits with eight strikeouts…Allowed three runs, two earned on seven hits and two walks while punching out eight batters on April 27 in a win over sixth-seeded Coker.

2016 at Tennessee Tech (Sophomore): Appeared in 11 games striking out 12 in 9.2 innings pitched...His best outing came on April 30 at Little Rock as he tossed three flawless frames with two strikeouts...Recorded back-to-back scoreless outings against Bucknell on Feb. 27 and Miami (Ohio) on March 5 striking out two batters in the contests.

2015 at Tennessee Tech (Freshman): Gardner made 15 appearances in his first season as a Golden Eagle, including two starts… tossed 21.2 innings on the year compiling an 0-3 record and 9.55 ERA… allowed 40 hits, 23 earned runs and 11 walks while striking out 15 batters… made his first career start at #4 Vanderbilt (Mar. 17), tossing a season-high 2.2 innings… also earned a start against Alabama A&M (Mar. 25), matching his season-high of 2.2 innings pitched… struck out a season-high three batters against Davidson (Feb. 22)… tossed a scoreless and hitless inning at #5 Arizona State (Apr. 26)… held opponents scoreless in his first five outings (Feb. 13-Mar. 3)… posted multiple strikeouts in six appearances. 

High School: Gardner was a two-sport athlete at Morristown West High School, lettering four years in baseball as a pitcher and first baseman for head coach Chuck Stansberry… also lettered four years in football as a quarterback under head coach Lamar Brown…graduated with honors.
