Orange puts early bow on Fall World Series

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Coach Mark Allen Bounds's Orange team picked up a 4-0 win in game two of the series and a 9-3 victory in game three Saturday afternoon at the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex in Carson-Newman baseball's Fall World Series to seal the best-of-five tussle.

GAME ONE – ORANGE 4, Blue 0

The Orange team extended its series lead in game two of the Orange and Blue World Series in a 4-0 shutout victory in the opening game of the day.

Joe Selitto made his way on base for the orange squad on a walk from Dillion Cate before stealing second a few pitches later in the bottom of the first inning. Colby Morgan doubled past a diving Wilfredo Acevedo into centerfield to bring in Selitto for a 1-0 Orange lead in the bottom of the first inning.

Morgan was 2-for-3 on the day with that double and a single in the bottom of the sixth.

Will Gardner, the Orange starting pitcher, scored on a Micah Genter single deep into right field. Genter moved up to second base after a passed ball from Cate, but Cate, sent down the next three batters in order to hold the game at 2-0.

Leading off the top of the fourth, Snapp ripped a single to left field, but Gardner made quick work of the next three batters with nothing to show for it from the blue team. Snapp finished the day going 2-for-3 on two singles.

Bottom of the fourth, Ethan Goforth led off with the single to the left side, who moved up to second on a passed ball. After Mark Treadway worked a walk and Hunter Sales moved the runners over, Tyler Thompson gave the Orange team a 3-0 lead with a sacrifice fly, scoring Goforth and moving Treadway to third in the process. A wild pitch from Cate on the ensuing at-bat scored Treadway, pushing the lead to 4-0 after four innings.

Gardner was relieved heading into the top of the fifth inning by Greg Valentine, grabbing the game two win after 4.0 innings, four strikeouts, and no runs on three hits.

Valentine surrendered a hit to right fielder Charlie Brown, who was promptly picked off moments later stopping any momentum of a comeback.  Valentine wrapped up the final three innings for the Orange team, allowing just one hit with two strikeouts.

Cate's loss for the Blue squad came with four runs on four hits through 4 1/3 innings, with just two strike outs through 74 tosses.

GAME TWO – ORANGE 9, Blue 3

Jacob Hanson earned the victory on the mound for the Orange club tossing three innings of baseball for Bounds with Nick Adkins and Jeb Lambert finishing out the afternoon on the rubber.

Colby Morgan opened the scoring with a two-run double to left-center field as the Orange team scored first yet again. Mark Treadway provided the additional run support with a two-run double.

Game four of the series is slated to begin Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Orange team leading the only undecided portion of the series, run differential, 27-6. The Eagle Sports Network will provide an audio stream for the outing on cneagles.com/live.
