INDIANAPOLIS - For the first time in program history, two Carson-Newman baseball players were named College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Baseball Academic All-District 3 team selections with Zach Boze and Kilian Daughtry earning the laurel announced on Friday.

The duo is a part of the District 3 roster that features members from the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and the Peach Belt Conference. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in June.

Most recently, Tyler Thompson was named to the team in 2019 later becoming a second-team Academic All-American. Greg Valentine took home the laurel in 2019, Brandon Roberts secured the honor in 2016, Paul Kirby was tabbed in 2017 and Dillon Cate in 2018. Kirby and Cate were later honored as Academic All-Americans joining Brandon Burchfield in 2006 and 2007 as C-N baseball athletes earning the nation's top academic-athlete honor.

Boze has a 3.66 grade-point average in business management and Daughtry finished his undergraduate degree in exercise science with a 3.50 while earning a 4.00 in the MBA program as one of the two graduates in the district to tout a flawless GPA.

Finishing the year as one of the top power hitters in the conference, Boze racked up a team-leading 10 homers driving in 38 runs. The Gallatin, Tenn. native posted 15 multi-hit games and 10 multi-RBI affairs.

Daughtry completed his career second on the roster in RBIs with 40 leading the club with 13 multi-RBI outings including five with at least three adding 17 multi-hit contests. During a stretch he reached base safely in 19 games in a row, the longest by an Eagle for the year.

The 2020 Academic All-District® Baseball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
