Teichmann, Rogers re-sign pro contracts in Germany, England

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - Former Carson-Newman men's basketball players Grant Teichmann and Josh Rogers have extended their professional basketball careers signing fresh contracts with the Dresden Titans (ProB, Germany) and the Bristol Flyers (British Basketball League, England), respectively.

Teichmann is in his third year as a pro.  He spent the first two years in Germany's ProA League with the Wiha Panthers and Heidelberg.

An All-SAC second team selection, Teichman was a warhorse on the court. Teichmann led the league averaging 35 minutes per game.  He was C-N's leader in scoring (14.5) and assists (4.7), and was third in rebounds (4.5).  He ranked fifth in the conference in assists.

Teichmann's 4.7 assist per game average registers as the fourth-highest single-season average in Carson-Newman men's basketball history.

His slash line as a senior was impressive.  He made 50.2 percent of his shots, 42.2 percent of his threes and 73.3 percent of his foul shots. Teichmann, Queens' Blake Morrow and Lenoir-Rhyne's Darius Simmons were the only players in the league that year to average at least 50 percent shooting from the field and 42 percent from three. Teichmann was the only player in that trio to average double figures.

Teichmann matched his career high of 26 points on three occasions in his final season at the Creek.  He went for 26 in an 87-86 win at King and did it again in a road loss to Queens and a home win against Newberry.

He became the first player in 12 seasons to turn in a double-double with points and assists for Carson-Newman.  He had 16 points and 11 rebounds against Lees-McRae.  He wound up bringing home SAC and TSWA State Player of the Week honors for that effort when it was couples with his career-high matching performance at King.

Teichmann scored in double figures 21 times that year and went on the plus side of 20 points on eight occasions.  He had at least five assists in 13 games as a senior.

Meanwhile, Rogers returns for his fourth year in the Bristish Basketball League and his sixth as a professional.  He spent his first years playing in Israel before moving to the BBL.  Rogers spent one year with London before playing the last two years in Bristol.

Rogers finished his C-N career with 688 points and 518 rebounds. He started all 28 games of his senior season and finished the year shooting 60.2 percent from the field.

The 6-8 wingman's best game came in his junior year when he scored a career high 19 points in the NCAA tournament against No. 23 Montevallo. He tallied his top mark for boards against Clayton State as a junior when he ripped down 13.

Through his Carson-Newman career, the Eagles were 24-9 when Rogers hit double digits scoring. C-N was 39-13 when he had at least five rebounds.

Rogers had 10 double-doubles in his college career, including five in his final go-around in the Orange and Blue.
