ROCK HILL, S.C. – Three Carson-Newman football players have been credited with preseason All-South Atlantic Conference laurels, the league office announced Monday morning.

A pair of linebackers, Alonzo Houston (Wimauma, Fla.) and Caleb Goins (Bristol, Va.), as well as long snapper Andrew Bradshaw (China Grove, N.C.) all represented Carson-Newman on the second team.

All three players are first-time honorees.

Bradshaw continues a long lineage of all-conference long snappers.  With Bradshaw's selection, Carson-Newman's last three long snappers – a stretch that dates back to 2012 – have all garnered all-league laurels. Dusty Nance and Dawson Campbell both were three-time honorees.

In 11 career games, Bradshaw has only seen one punt or kick blocked and that attempt was a 50-yard line-drive field goal that ricocheted off the line seeking extra distance.

Goins transformed himself into an everygame starter for C-N. Goins was third on the team in tackles and one of two defensive players to start every game for C-N.  He had 62 stops on the year, including 7.0 tackles for loss.

Goins also broke up four passes, recovered a fumble and blocked a kick.  He recovered his fumble against West Georgia and blocked his kick against Newberry.  The game against the Wolves was his best of the season. He produced a career-best 11 tackles. He also topped eight stops against both UVA Wise and Tusculum.  He had a career-best three tackles for loss against Wingate.

Houston was Carson-Newman and the South Atlantic Conference's leading tackler for 2021.  Houston made 98 stops on the year with 5.5 behind the line of scrimmage.  Houston had six double-digit tackle efforts on the year against West Georgia, UVA Wise, Catawba, Lenoir-Rhyne, Newberry and Mars Hill.

He had a career-high 15 stops against UVA Wise and a career-high 10 solo tackles against Catawba.  He also made multiple stops behind the line of scrimmage against the Indians.

Houston enters this season with 174 total tackles.

All three of Carson-Newman's All-SAC selections will be on display when Carson-Newman opens the season Sept. 1 at 7 p.m. in Carrollton, Ga. against West Georgia. The contest will be broadcast on the Eagle Sports Network starting one-hour prior to kickoff with the AEC Tailgate Show on Joy 620 (WRJZ-AM, Knoxville), Mountain Sports 106.3 (WPFT-FM, Sevierville) and online at cneagles.com/live.
