Corbin named TSWA Offensive Player of the Week

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman senior quarterback Ivan Corbin (Warner Robbins, Ga.) has garnered state offensive player of the week honors from the Tennessee Sportswriters Association, the organization announced Tuesday morning.

Corbin is the second Eagle to earn TSWA honors this season, but the first on the offensive side of the ball.  Frank Lee (Spartanburg, S.C.) was presented defensive player of the week honors following the Eagles' Oct. 15 shutout of Erskine.

Corbin is the first offensive player of the week from the organization since Nov. 6, 2017 when Derrick Evans earned the honor following a five-touchdown day in a win at Lenoir-Rhyne.

Corbin passed for two touchdowns and ran for two others in a 38-22 win for the Eagles against UVA-Wise. The Warner Robins, Ga.-native scored on runs of one and 12 yards and tossed TD passes from 27 and 31 yards. The 27-yard strike to Luke Simpson gave Carson-Newman a 31-0 lead.  His 31-yard pitch and catch to Travaunta Abner more or less sealed the win for the Eagles in the third quarter.

Corbin finished the game 13-of-23 passing for 251 yards, the first Eagles quarterback to throw for more than 200 yards in consecutive games since 2016, and rushed 16 times for 57 yards (not including sacks/negative plays).

Corbin and the rest of the Eagles will be in action at Catawba Saturday at 1 p.m. Coverage on the Eagle Sports Network begins at noon with the AEC Tailgate Show.
