Lady Eagles report for fall camp under second year head coach Carol Bonnes

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The defending South Atlantic Conference champion Carson-Newman Lady Eagles women's soccer team took to the field for the first time in 2011 with a Monday morning fitness test and afternoon practice.

After a year in which C-N won a share of the SAC title despite finishing the season with only 12 healthy players, C-N head coach Carol Bonnes had 25 report over the weekend for fall camp.

"I'm pleased with our first day of preseason camp," Bonnes said. "We' should have a lot more competition for starting positions, as well as more overall quality and depth with 13 new girls coming in. Our goal is to continue the winning tradition here at Carson-Newman, while moving the program forward behind this large group of newcomers."

The Lady Eagles return a number of key pieces from last season's SAC championship squad, led by senior forward Trenna Howell (Oak Ridge, Tenn.). Howell led C-N with 12 goals, despite missing four matches with an injury.

Carson-Newman will travel to Williamsburg, Ky. on Sunday for an exhibition match with The University of the Cumberlands at 12:30 p.m.

The Lady Eagles open their regular season on Sept. 1 at 4 p.m. against Chowan. They open SAC play on Sept. 17 at home against Brevard College at 3 p.m.
