  • C-N Softball Signs Nine in 2012 Recruiting Class

    JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman softball has signed nine student-athletes for the 2013 season, head coach Vickee Kazee-Hollifield announced Wednesday. East Tennessee products Brittany Hefner (Morristown, Tenn.), Kelli Hensley (Knoxville, Tenn.), and Katie Brown (Maryville, Tenn.), along with Katie Sims (Soddy Daisy, Tenn.), Braleigh Angel (Chattanooga, Tenn.), Hayley Burnette (Rossville, Ga.) and Brenna Nation (Chickamauga, Ga.), all from the Chattanooga area have signed to play with the Lady Eagles next season. Kimberly Wilkinson (Warren Co., Tenn.) and Kalyn Davis (Danville, Ky.) complete the 2012 signing class.

    GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Anderson University advanced to the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Softball Championship game with a 2-0 victory over Carson-Newman College Saturday afternoon at Red Edmonds Field. The third-seeded Trojans (38-12) will play top-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne University (45-11) Sunday at 1:00 p.m. for the conference title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament.

    GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Fourth-seeded Carson-Newman exploded for six runs in the fifth inning en route to a 9-1 win over No. 5 seed Tusculum in six innings, Saturday morning in an elimination game of the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Softball Championship at Red Edmonds Field on the Tusculum campus. With the victory, the Eagles (34-21) advance to the elimination bracket final against the loser of Saturday’s winner’s bracket final between No. 1 Lenoir-Rhyne and No. 3 Anderson. Tusculum is eliminated from the tournament to end its season at 32-25.

    GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Caitlyn Lance hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning as Carson-Newman College rallied for a 3-2 victory over Catawba College in an elimination game at the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Softball Championship Friday evening at Red Edmonds Field. The fourth-seeded Lady Eagles (33-21) advance to face fifth-seeded Tusculum in an elimination game Saturday beginning at 10:30 a.m.

    GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – Carson-Newman’s Mary Shealy homered twice, including a grand slam, and pitched four perfect innings to open the game, to lead C-N past Mars Hill, 10-4, in an elimination game in the 2012 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Softball Tournament. Carson-Newman advances to face Catawba at 6 p.m. at Red Edmonds Field on the Tusculum campus at 6 p.m. this evening.

Skeen earns first team All-SAC honors, while first baseman Caitlyn Lance (East Ridge, Tenn.) and pitcher Mary Shealy (Clinton, S.C.) were named to the second team.

    Brevard, N.C. - Carson-Newman's Bri Shoemake had an RBI double to lift the Lady Eagles to a 4-2 win in the opener and Brevard's Alyssa Miller (9-8) pitched a one-hit shutout in Game 2 as Carson-Newman and Brevard College split a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader on Saturday in Brevard, N.C. Carson-Newman improves to 29-20 on the year. Carson-Newman is the No. 4 seed in the 2012 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament and will face No. 5 Tusculum on Thursday at 10:30 in Greeneville, Tenn. Lenoir-Rhyne is the No. 1 seed and will face No. 8 Mars Hill on the Lady Eagles' side of the bracket.

    ROCK HILL, S.C. – Former Carson-Newman softball All-American Sammi Hatcher Chafin is among the five new inductees to join the South Atlantic Conference Hall of Fame this summer, commissioner Patrick Britz announced on Wednesday. Chafin, formerly Sammi Hatcher, starred for the Lady Eagles from 1990-1993 as C-N claimed three of the first four South Atlantic Conference softball titles.

    HARROGATE, TN -- The LMU Lady Railsplitters' softball team split a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon with the Carson-Newman College Lady Eagles in their South Atlantic Conference home opener. Lincoln Memorial University dropped the first game 6-4, and recovered to take a 6-4 victory in the finale. With the split, the Lady Railsplitters move to 10-17 overall on the season and 2-2 in the SAC. The Lady Eagles go to 18-10 and 1-3 in the South Atlantic Conference.

    BELMONT, N.C. – The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles hammered out 23 hits and 15 runs to sweep a doubleheader from Belmont Abbey College on Sunday afternoon in Belmont, N.C. C-N beat the Crusaders, 8-0 in five innings in Game 1 and cruised in Game 2, 7-2. The Lady Eagles held the Crusaders without a run until the final inning of the day while racking up runs in bunches to improves to 17-9 on the year. BAC falls to 6-16.

    JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman pitcher Mary Shealy (Clinton, S.C.) fired C-N’s first no-hitter in three seasons as the Lady Eagles swept visiting Lees-McRae College on Monday afternoon at the C-N Softball Complex. C-N won the opener, 2-1, and grabbed an 8-0 win in Game 2. The no-hitter is the first for C-N, and for Shealy, since 2009. She shut out Brevard with another five inning no-hitter during her freshman season, which was also an 8-0 final.
