Lady Eagle volleyball signs two for 2012 season

The Carson Newman Volleyball Head Coach Shannon Mincey added 2 players to her roster for the 2012 campaign during the early signing period.

"I am happy to announce the signing of these 2 talented players. We have a great group of players already on our roster and I know the addition of these 2 will add more depth. Not only am I excited to coach them on the court but to see who they will become off the court already having a strong character, solid spiritual vision, and loyal work ethic toward the philosophy of our program."

5'10 Outside/Rightside Hitter, Sara Fairley from Charlotte, NC, currently plays for the Carolina Union Volleyball Club. Her 2011 17's club team placed 11th at the Nationals in the American Division as well celebrated finishing 5th at the Big South Qualifier in Atlanta, GA.

"The one thing that is so impressionable of Sara is her team spirit. She will add value to her teammates and our program through her commitment. Sara has a solid block and touches high for our conference. I look forward to coaching her and seeing her reach her potential." Adds Coach Mincey

Sara led her South Mecklenburg High School team with 4.3 kills per set and held the highest serving percentage for her team, started as a varsity player all 4 years and was Southwestern two-time 4A All-Conference member. She holds a 4.67 gpa and is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Sabres Stand Against Indifference, Student Government, National Honor Society, National Beta Club, and Spanish Honor Society. She has taken overseas missions trips to Nicaragua and Kingston Jamaica.

Quote from Sara "After spending time with the girls on the team, and getting to know Coach Mincey, I knew without a doubt that Carson-Newman was the place for me! I felt strongly that God had directed my path to Coach Mincey and these wonderful future teammates. I am excited to attend a college surrounded by faculty, students and teammates that will help me continue to grow in my faith."

Kianna Sedlacek, a native of Cardington, OH, is a multi-sport athlete who will be playing both volleyball and basketball at Carson-Newman however signing an NLI with the volleyball program.

Coach Mincey adds, "Kianna attended our summer team camp.  Her level of focus and desire to win gained my attention. I am recruiting her with intentions of training her defensively; however, she has an aggressive attack and could potentially garner front row play depending on our personnel. Her jump serve is aggressive but what I think most people will notice about Kianna is her athleticism and lack of fear toward competition. She is versatile playing setter and outside hitter for her high school so that can only help her court awareness!"

Kianna is a four year letterman; four year starter; three time team captain, three-time team MVP; and named to the All MOAC and All-Central District team three times. She was also named All District three times. She is a record holder for her school and for the Mid Ohio Athletic Conference in career kills with 989 which also earned her 47th all-time in all divisions of prep volleyball in Ohio. She also has the school record for aces in a season and in a career. A member of the National Honor Society, she is a 2011 Academic All-Ohio and carries a 4.304 GPA. Kianna plans to major in Political Science and Pre-Law at Carson-Newman. She currently plays basketball for her high school.

Quote from Kianna "I chose Carson Newman for a couple reasons; First and foremost I felt led by the Good Lord to go to a place where I could grow as an athlete, a student and most importantly as a Christian. Carson Newman allows me the ability to do all of those things. I also chose Carson Newman because the current roster, the school and Coach Mincey are committed to assisting me and guiding me towards achieving my goals, and that is to succeed both in my spiritual walk and on the court."
