Streeter lauded as SAC Player of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. – For the second time in 2017 Marnie Streeter has been named the South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week announced by the league Tuesday afternoon.

The sophomore was also given the honor on Sept. 12 as she joins Wingate's Katie Bludau and Anderson's Marissa Mitter to win the plaudit more than once this season.

2015 was the last time an Eagle was named the league's player of the week more than once when Molly Locke was thrice and Sara Fairley garnered recognition twice. Each of those athletes were named first-team All-SAC selections at the conclusion of the year.

The Goldvein, Va. native guided Carson-Newman to a trio of victories away from home last week to help stretch the club's winning streak to six matches. Overall she posted 54 total kills, 4.2 per set, while hitting just shy of .200 with 23 digs and three blocks.

Streeter started the week with 19 kills and 12 digs to record her fourth double-double of the season in a five-set victory at Lincoln Memorial. It marked the win No. 200 in SAC play for the program as C-N joined Wingate, Catawba and Lenoir-Rhyne in the 200-club.

On Friday night in a five-set conquest at Lenoir-Rhyne, the outside hitter notched her fifth career 20-plus kill effort pounding out 20 smashes to lead all players in the outing to go along with five digs.

To conclude her week at the office, the sophomore tallied 15 kills on a .220 hitting clip with six digs and 1.5 rejections to hand Catawba its 15th consecutive loss. With the outing, the Old Dominion State native has at least 14 kills in 16 straight matches.

Ranking third in the conference, Streeter is averaging 3.76 kills per set, 4.20 points and has a total of 293 kills. Her tally of 3.76 kills per frame would rank fourth in a single-season in the history of the program.

After posting the ninth-most attacks in program history as a freshman, she is second in the league and 27th in the nation with 11.47 attacks per set.

Streeter leads the Eagles on the court Tuesday evening at Holt Fieldhouse against a scrappy Mars Hill group that leads the nation in digs per set. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. A complimentary broadcast will be available on cneagles.com/live as "Silly Willy" Bill Spunkmeyer will provide the commentary.
